Joey Gilbert – Criminal Defense/Civil Litigation Licensed in Nevada

Joseph Salvatore Gilbert is our team’s experienced and dedicated attorney. As you will see below, he is ready to fight on your behalf and help you achieve the best possible results.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois. His family moved to Sparks, Nevada and he attended Our Lady of the Snows Parochial School in Reno. Joey graduated from Bishop Manogue Catholic High School in Reno—1994. He attended the University of Nevada, Reno—graduating in 2000 with a B.A. —majoring in English Literature & Political Science — emphasizing in foreign affairs —and minored in Italian.

As a collegiate boxer, Joey was a 3-time National Champion (NCBA 1997, 1998, and 1999), 4-time Regional Champion and 4-time All American. After returning from basic training/technical school for the Nevada Air National Guard, he fought and became the Nevada State Golden-Gloves Super-Middleweight Champion in May 2000. He had his first professional fight that summer before entering law school.

Joey went on Individual Ready Reserve (Federal Reserve component —United States Air Force Reserve) from 2001-2007, but was never activated. He earned a J.D. Degree in 2003, graduating from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California and has been a member the Nevada Bar Association since 2004.

In 2004, Joey was cast in NBC’s The Contender, working alongside Sylvester Stallone, Sugar Ray Leonard and other talented boxers. Joey’s love of prizefighting ultimately led him to become ranked #3 in the world by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and #7 in the world by the World Boxing Council (WBC). Joey was formerly both WBO-NABO and WBC-USNBC Middleweight Champion—2006 & 2007.

While competing as a professional fighter, Joey was asked, and volunteered for 3 “USO-Tours” to visit our troops serving in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq. Honored by the invitation, Joey visited “forward operating bases” (FOB’s) in support of our Armed Forces, travelling overseas during Christmas & New Year’s —2005/2006 and in the summer months of 2006/2007.

Joey has practiced law since 2004; nevertheless, after winning the WBO-NABO middleweight championship in February 2006, Joey focused on boxing full time —defending his WBO-NABO belt numerous times in northern Nevada —then won the WBC-USNBC middleweight championship March, 2007. He retired September, 2010 —his record: 21-3 (16 KO’s).

Since 2007, Joey has been a licensed boxing promoter in the State of Nevada—through the Division of Business and Industry. His company, Joey Gilbert Promotions, has worked closely with the Nevada State Athletic Commission — promoting/co-promoting nearly a dozen boxing events in northern Nevada.

In January 2011, Joey Gilbert & Associates, Ltd. (hereinafter, “JGA”) was formed with the mission – deliver affordable, effective and efficient legal representation through disciplined, persistent and straightforward lawyering. Joey is in court daily throughout northern Nevada, including in many of the rural counties. Currently, he focuses on criminal/civil trial practice, public policy, government affairs and specific areas of sports-entertainment law.

Needing depth/focus, JGA acquired Nicholas Wooldridge —10 years practicing criminal defense State/Federal (licensed Nevada/NewYork); and Kaitlin Miller, formerly with the NV Attorney General.

Additionally, Joey serves as the northern Nevada attorney for the Nevada Association of Public Safety Officers (NAPSO), where he has been called on to represent many members/officers/deputies in law enforcement.

For the Children’s Cabinet, Joey volunteers his time serving as the pro-bono attorney for all criminal matters program attendees face. Moreover, Joey passion of working with kids dates back to his days at the University. He has consistently spoken on the topics of physical fitness, nutrition, goals and more — at dozens of schools/clubs/organizations in northern Nevada, including recently serving as the keynote speaker for a small, 2014 graduating class at Rights of Passage. As an advocate for the local Hispanic community, Joey sponsors three teams in the 1st Division (u-7, u-8 and u-10) youth soccer league in northern Nevada as well as Arce’s Boxing-Club in Sparks, Nevada.

Joey is the Chairman of Nevada Veterans for Veterans —a non-profit organization formed by Joey’s father. Trauma/flight surgeon, Commander Warren S. Gilbert MD, (USN-retired 2012 — 3 combat deployments) focuses his charity’s efforts on becoming a “fusion-center” for Veterans “lost in the shuffle” by the overwhelming demand on veterans organizations and the disconnect between the veterans themselves and these support programs due to the significant rise of veterans returning with PTSD.

*Licensed in Nevada, admitted to practice in U.S. Federal Courts and Mr. Gilbert is admitted to the U.S. 9th Circuit and the United States District Court of Nevada.
